December 2016

Here are the questions covered in this call.

  1. I will be 59 next month. I take Estradiol 1mg 3 times per week and Medroxyprogesterone 2.5mg 3 times per week. I’ve been on hormones a little over 5 years and have been weening down. Should I continue weening off or should I stay on the hormones? I’m getting conflicting information from my doctors and am confused! (HRT)
  2. Is it normal for my stomach to be bloated and hurt all the time? I am very sensitive to foods. (Other)
  3. I’ve read your book " The Estogen Window". I’m 64 years old and use bioidendical Estriol 0.1% for vaginal dryness, which works well for me. When I read the book, I think I missed my Estrogen window. Now I’m concerned about all the problems that can arise from lack of Estrogen. Is there any way that it's safe to take Estrogen now or is it too late? (HRT)
  4. I’m 53 years old and going through menopause.  My biggest issue is weight gain and hot flashes.  I’m learning to deal with the hot flashes but the weight gain is frustrating. Any ideas? (Weight Loss)
  5. Are there any vitamins that will help with sleep? (Sleep issues)

November 2016

Here are the questions covered in this call.

  1. Are beneficial effects of estrogen on cis women the same for a trans woman who is taking estrogen along with testosterone blockers for their transition? (HRT)
  2. I had my daughter at 39 and am now 49. It feels like I'm back to my teenage cycle. I get very moody and feel like am a different person. Is there anything that I can take to stabilize my moods? (Mood Swings)
  3. I’m 59 and went through menopause at 50. I’m on bioidentical hormones with estrogen. I had the Dutch test and my 16 to 2 hydroxy ratio was out of whack, I had too much 16. I’m wondering how much stock to put into the metabolites or if there is a better way to do this. (HRT)
  4. I went into perimenopause at about 42, and haven’t had a period for about 2 years. In one year, I’ve gained only 5 pounds, but it’s redistributed in such a way that none of my clothes fit. I have fibromyalgia and have to be careful about how I exercise, but everything has turned into flab. (Weight Loss)
  5. How does cortisol and stress affect belly fat? How do you lower cortisol? (Weight Loss)
  6. I had a hysterectomy at 38 and have one "working" ovary left. I’m 51 years old now. Am I at a higher risk for Alzheimer's since I didn't get estrogen? And is there sense in taking it now? I’m taking Gabapentin 300mg QD at bedtime for severe hot flashes, but I’d rather take estrogen than deal with the side effects of Gabapentin. (HRT)

October 2016

Here are the questions covered in this call.

  1. I had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago. I’m now getting very frequent urinary tract infections which are getting harder to treat with antibiotics. I’m on my third one right now and it is the uti from hell!!! What can I do to stop this? (Hysterectomy Impact)
  2. I'm 54. Five months ago, after reading your book, I got my doctor to start me on the estradiol patch .025 twice weekly. Every 3 months I'm supposed to take progesterone 200 mg twice a day for 15 days. The first time I did that I made it to 12 days and then got headaches. I felt like it was too much progesterone but my doctor said to try to finish the pills. Do you think it's necessary to take that much progesterone if on the low dose estradiol? (HRT)
  3. I was diagnosed in 2014 with endometrial I’ve been using over the counter progesterone since, but am now having estrogen fluctuation issues, as well as extreme moodiness and hot flashes. I’m 54 years old and in perimenopause. Can I still use HRT? (HRT)
  4. Since menopause I have developed a fibrocystic left breast. What are the implications of this and what can I do about it? It gives me twinges of shooting pain every now and then, not serious pain but I know it is there! (Other)
  5. How can I find a doctor who will prescribe BHRT in my area? It seems as though most ob/gyns do not want to go there. I’ve read your book, The Estrogen Window, and I'm well within the 10 year estrogen window.  (HRT)
  6. Can HRT (E2 and progesterone) can be taken for life in the form of a bio-identical cream? (HRT)
  7. I’m 49 and have been in perimenopause for over 5 years. I’ve recently been plagued with extreme bloating that doesn't dissipate with gas, it just lingers and lingers as my belly gets more and more distended. I can feel it start as soon as I wake up. It doesn’t matter what I eat, although I follow a low carb diet with very little grains or sugar and no cruciferous vegetables. Gas pills do not work either. I’m so uncomfortable every day. Any suggestions? (Other)
  8. I’m 53 years old and two years post menopausal. I’ve had severe vaginal and urethral burning after going to many doctors and have been using Estrace vaginal cream and Vagifem and then a natural bio identical estradiol cream. Every one of them burns worse than the original burn. Can you be allergic to vaginal estrogen and if so what are your options? I’ve been to 10 doctors and they all keep giving me creams that seem to make the issue worse. (Other)

September 2016

Here are the questions covered in this call.

  1. I’m 58 and in very good health and generally pretty cheerful. I know that women in menopause seem to put on weight, but my issue is I seem to have lost all my shape, despite keeping to the same healthy whole food diet I have always had. I had anorexia as a teenager and it is as if, since my hormones have gone down, I have reverted to my scrawny, adolescent shape with barely any chest and skinny shoulders. I find it impossible to put on any flesh and feel I have lost my femininity. I think people think I am like this because I starve myself when I eat very well. Any ideas on how I can look like and be a proper woman? (Other)
  2. I’ve had a total hysterectomy. Since I have no uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix or ovaries, how are the rest of my organs not falling out through my vagina? I have the cuff, but holy cow, what happens if it tears? (Hysterectomy Impact)
  3. I have taken Estrace for 20 years after a hysterectomy with no problems. Do I need to stop taking it? I’m getting differing opinions from doctors. (HRT)
  4. I am 54, and in perimenopause. I’m having major hormone fluctuations- and often, right before my period starts, my blood pressure spikes high, lasting about 1 week. Can you tell me how to deal with this? I am using a progesterone cream, starting the 12th day of my cycle. I’m also taking metoprolol (1/2 minimum dose) and amlodapine (1/2 minimum dose.) Sometimes I get migraines and headache in my face, tinnitus, and I also have a few hot flashes, plus major mood swings. I do eat really healthy! Any ideas? (HRT)
  5. I went into menopause at age 52 and am now 57. I’m having a lot of vaginal dryness. I’m not on estrogen because my doctor has discouraged me from going on it. What should I do? (Sex During Menopause)
  6. Should I be taking vitamin d and calcium after my total hysterectomy? Do the bones really get bad from lack of estrogen? (Hysterectomy Impact)
  7. I’m interested in HRT (hormone replacement therapy), but I’m concerned about it being safe. Is it? (HRT)
  8. I’ve had my two ovaries taken out and am in sudden menopause at age 41. I is concerned about HRT and how long I will have to use it with all the side effects.  Any suggestions? (HRT)
  9. What should I do if I’m doing all the right things but still not getting results? My diet is very good, I take supplements, and am on bioidentical hormone treatment, but I’m still struggling with 15+ pounds, waking up every single night at 3:00, and have terrible energy.  I’m going on 56, had two periods last year and one in February of this year. (Menopausal Stages)
  10. What do you think of estrogen pellets? (HRT)

August 2016

Here are the questions covered in this call.

  1. I’m 35 and a breast cancer survivor who also had a full hysterectomy. The doctors don't want me to take any hormones because of the chance that the cancer could come back. Is there anything that I can take that would be safe? I’ve tried many different menopause vitamins like black cohosh and just don’t know what else to do to get through menopause since I am so young. (HRT, Hysterectomy impact)
  2. My last period was in May, 2008. I’m now 61 and healthy and the women on both sides of my family live into their late 90s. Since starting menopause, I’ve suffered greatly with hot flashes, sometimes as many as 35 episodes a day and also have trouble sleeping. I had no energy and was dragging myself through the day. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and at the suggestion of my fibro specialist, I asked my Ob-Gyn to put me on estrogen patches and then took progestins for 2 years. I lost 8 pounds and felt slightly more energetic on HRT, but not too much different. Two years ago my insurance changed and would no longer cover the cost of the estrogen patches so I discontinued HRT. For the past year and a half, I’ve been waking up about 5 times a night with hot flashes. I’m very tired and have also gained weight.I’ve tried herbal supplements such as black cohosh and eating more soy, etc. Nothing has really helped other than the passage of time. It’s been 26 months since I stopped HRT and still don’t feel as well as I did before starting it! Do you think I came off of HRT too soon? I wish that menopause wasn't wreaking havoc with my life! (HRT)
  1. I entered menopause surgically in 2011. I initially used the Vivelle Dot patch up until this year, then wanted to try a natural alternative. My gynecologist recommended I stay on the patch but was not opposed to me trying something else. Currently I use a cream with Estriol twice a day. I did have a post partum stroke with my third child in 2003. Do I need to worry about not receiving enough estrogen from this cream? (HRT)
  2. I have almost daily pain or burning from vaginal atrophy. I’ve been in menopause for 10 years‎, and used vaginal premarin for first few years of menopause, then Vagifem the last few years. Any suggestions? (Other)
  3. I’m at my ideal weight or less, I exercise daily, primarily eat organic meat, chicken, fish, fruits and veggies, and avoid unrefined carbs and sugar. I don’t drink or smoke and basically lead a very healthy lifestyle.  However, my insulin level is too high and approaches pre-diabetes.  Does this have to do with approaching menopause (I am 56)? Is there anything I can do, in addition to what I’m already doing? (Other)

Weight loss    (back to top)

I’m 53 years old and going through menopause.  My biggest issue is weight gain and hot flashes.  I’m learning to deal with the hot flashes but the weight gain is frustrating. Any ideas? (Dec 2016)

(Nov 2016)

I'm 52, a fitness instructor, and eat vegan. I entered menopause this year. My weight has not drastically changed but I’m feeling things get slightly tight and feel bloated. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)   (back to top)

(Dec 2016)

(Dec 2016)

(Nov 2016)

(Nov 2016)

(Oct 2016)

I was diagnosed in 2014 with endometrial I’ve been using over the counter progesterone since, but am now having estrogen fluctuation issues, as well as extreme moodiness and hot flashes. I’m 54 years old and in perimenopause. Can I still use HRT? (Oct 2016)

How can I find a doctor who will prescribe BHRT in my area? It seems as though most ob/gyns do not want to go there. I’ve read your book, The Estrogen Window, and I'm well within the 10 year estrogen window.  (Oct 2016)

Any ideas? (Sep 2016)

What do you think of estrogen pellets? (Sep 2016)

(Aug 2016)

(Aug 2016)

(Aug 2016)

I’m 57 and had my last period last November. Had terrible hot flashes. My doctor recently gave me an estrogen patch and progestogen. Now I’m having PMS like cramps, breast pain, and mood changes. Should I have my doctor change my medication? (July 2016)

I’ve been taking an estrogen supplement for a few months and have experienced some spotting, yet I’m fully menopausal. Does this mean I should not take it anymore? (July 2016)

I started taking estrogen about 7 years ago using Vivelle patches and take a progesterone tablet every day and it’s helped hot flashes and brain fog. Is there any reason that I will ever have to stop taking it? (June 2016)

In your book The Estrogen Window, you offered a download in regards to tapering off Prempro. I would like to know how to do this safely. I’m 58 and currently on Premarin, and intermittent Provera. I currently take the .3/1.5 dosage and have been on it for three years. (May 2016)

I’m having blood pressure spikes after having low to normal blood pressure all my life. I take a small dose of losartan since April, 2016 since starting menopause at the same time. My doctor will not put me on estrogen therapy. I bought your book The Estrogen Window and wonder if you think I would be a candidate or even if I have a window b/c of the blood pressure issue. There is no heart disease or breast cancer in my family, but my mother died of pancreatic cancer. (May 2016)

I entered menopause at 51, and am now 65. I’ve not taken any hormones. I bought your book The Estrogen Window hoping to find out what kind and when to take Estrogen. I’m wondering since I’m past the "10 year window", what can I do? I also have osteoporosis. (May 2016)

I still have symptoms such as brain fog, weight gain, joint pain and poor sleep. I am now looking at going back on HRT - possibly bioidentical after full work up bloodwork. I am now 59. I went through early menopause when at 35 I had an IVF operation and got a severe infection which caused peritonitis and infection which led to removal of left ovary and right ovary now not working. I’ve taken HRT then stopped it and then in August 2015 started the HRT again and took it for 3 weeks, then had a very bad side effect of sudden high blood pressure (180/100) so her doctor stopped the HRT immediately. Nowadays she’s suffering from panic attacks and can’t work or live properly. Any advice? (Feb 2016)

Any ideas on how I can look like and be a proper woman? (Sep 2016)
